In ‘The Grand’ the focus is on a group of argumentative poker players at a Las Vegas poker tournament with a ten million dollar top prize. One-Eyed Jack Faro (Woody Harrelson) is desperately trying to prevent his grandfather’s casino from being bought out by a property developer but he is struggling to hold out and struggling even harder to stay sober. Brother and sister Larry Schartzman (David Cross) and Lainie Schwartzman (Cheryl Hines) are damaged kids who find it hard to say no to their powerful father (Gabe Kaplan). Another player is Andy Andrews (Richard Kind) who has had a lot of success online but has never played in front of people before, while Harold Melvin (Chris Parnell) is a number crunching genius who figures he can out think all the other players. Finally, there is the local mobster ‘Deuce’ Fairbanks (Dennis Farina). The storyline develops by following the tournament as well as the tournament’s television coverage.
